GEFCO and Thanet District Council, in England, have created a joint venture to boost the Port of Ramsgate. In this partnership, Thanet District Council is conducting dredging operations in the area to develop and make the port operational for use. GEFCO is putting in place storage systems and physical security necessary for the well-functioning of the port. This operation is set to revive the port that has been dormant since 2013.
John Stocker, Finished Vehicle Logistics Director at GEFCO UK, said “I am pleased to confirm the first shipment of 1,000 new vehicles into the port of Ramsgate. The vessel sailed from Zeebrugge, Belgium and is the first in a new shipping schedule between these ports. This new service is a result of several months of planning and co-operation between GEFCO UK and Thanet District Council, and we look forward to a continuing mutually beneficial partnership”.
